If you wear a leotard to hold up your tights, what ends up happening is the tights pull the leotard down. You get a loose fitting croch, and your leotard & tights look really bad on you! You might as well be wearing pink for how silly your going to look in class!
Aside from that, some guys do wear their leotard over tights if the school allows it. Other guys wear a unitard to get around the sagging tights problem. And yet other guys wear a t-shirt or dance shirt (tight fitting shirt) on top. When in doubt, check with your school before buying any clothes. Some schools are very strict on dress code, even requiring a specific brand, style and color of clothing.
Every dance school has a dress code or uniform for what it's female & male students should wear & how. Some schools may not care, allowing them to wear anything - no tights. But this isn't good, it shows the school isn't serious about teaching ballet if they don't make it's students wear tights. Seeing the muscles, line of body, posture, etc. is very important, esp. in the early stages of learning ballet.

>>Wow...! that sounds great! How do they fit? In what country are you? Do you also have pics of your new clothes ?>>Golf>Hmm, maybe I've not looked hard enough, but I have never seen a picture of a guy wearing a leotard like a girl does (except for pictures of boys in actual girls outfits). That would make a good picture for the front page of the message board...hehehe. >Like I've asked before...is it just tradition or is there a real reason fo guys to wear the tights over the leotard? I thought the whole point of one was to help keep the tights in place.[/i]
