It sounds strange to me that your dance school would let you wear girls dancewear and also teach you how to dance on pointes. I know that many boys, me too, would like to one day learn to dance on pointes just for fun. But isn't your school and teacher in a way perpetuating the myth of the effeminate male dancer?
>So if you think you get some strange looks, try wearing pink tights and a black leotard!!
I got hooked on dance because my twin sister loves dance. when we were 10 our mom took us to see the Nut Craker at the humming bird center after Christmass that was the first time I ever saw a ballet for real. I begged our mom to let me do ballet with my sister. I started with the help of my sister to wear her dancewear around the house until our mom gave in signed me up for ballet and bought me my own boy's dancewear. For halloween my sister and I wear each other's dancewear for our dance classes. So I have worn a gril's dancewear to my ballet class, but it was for fun, and it is fun to be mistaken for my sister.
