Look RM, it's no big deal.  Most dancewear shops, even the smallest ones, are in business to make money, and they won't turn you down. They may look at you "funny," but who cares.  If you feel more comfortable, make up a story, like you need them for a fraternity initiation party where they're going to show "The Red Shoes."  Tell them the frat boys already have white tutus from the costume department, and you need shoes that will fit properly, because you have sensitive feet,

Many ballet guys I've known ultimately want to try to "go on point,"(they do?..Can they really do that? I heard they couldn't)   LOOK, RM, ballet guys, even the most serious ones, express a desire to try point-work.  The typical excuse I hear is that they want to do pointe work to strengthen their feet and ankles, and work on their balance.  I've known schools where the teachers will give special pointe classes for the guys, particularly so they won't hurt themselves by trying it at home, alone.  SOME schools are stuffy, and will ridicule you for even trying.

IMPORTANT POINT (POINTE?) -- there are no roles in ballet where the men dance on pointe.  There are some companies that dance "travesty" ballet, where the males play the women and dance on pointe.

Hey, this may have been sarcastic.  I'm taking about the type of leather store that caters to guys with special interests -- Hell, I mean gay leather stores!  I've been in one (Yeah, sure. I've bet you've been in many, oh BalletMaster!) where the shop-keeper would find anything your heart desires.

If you're too timid to go out and get a pair, then I'd suggest you get into something you're brave enough to handle!(Not timid..just new..and wondering how someone in a shop like that would react)  WHO CARES!  Like I said above, they're in business to make money, and they'll like yours.  You could become a steady customer for them!  So what if people think you're weird? Hell, I for one don't think you're weird wanting red pointe shoes -- I'd love a pair for myself, now that I think about it!

P.S. Where do you live? How old are you?  If you can get to New York City, go to the Freed of London store on Seventh Avenue and West 57th Street (I used to live right next to the Essex House around the corner.).  I had them make my first pair of pointe shoes, and the staff was very helpful (They said they did this for guys often!) -- in fact, they called me or sent me notes when they had excess or unpicked-up orders of pointe shoes, and sold them to me at bargain prices.
