Re: The real enemy!

>>>This practice is directly responsible for the sudden lack of tights-wearing amongst females (see my post from a few days ago titled "Huh?"). Now, some of you might be thinking "Big deal! So, girls won't be wearing tights! I'm still going to wear them!", but you aren't seeing the big picture! If opaque legwear continues to fall out of favor with women, then finding tights for ourselves is just going to get more difficult! Already the major tights-manufacturers seem to be cutting back on their selections-colors are getting harder to find, and a good, opaque tight is also getting scarce (Et tu, Donna?). Women are still the majority in the tights-market, guys. We need them to start buying up opaques again so that manufacturers will ride the trend back to the former glory of tights-retailing. This will not happen until after we purge the world of this scourge. This scourge which sucks vital tights-buying money from the purses of our women, and which actually discourages women from wearing opaque legwear (which would hide the evidence of their participation in this loathsome practice, evidence that they are so inexplicably proud of.) I urge you to join me in fighting against this horrible, anti-tights institution.>>>Ladies and gentlemen, we must stop the pedicure. Thank you.   -Depon >>>>Depon, it is important to recognize how the fashion world works.  Clothing items, lengths, and styles go in and out of fashion periodically.  Yes, it is sad to see that tights are on the down turn as of late (the fall fashion shows revealed very little opaque leggings this year).  But they will never completely disappear.  We're about to endure a "dry spell", as it were.  And hopefully within a year (or 2), the trend for women to wear tights will be back.  Cycles existing in everything (baggy clothing one year, form fitting the next).  It would be nearly impossible to get these garments on the top of the accessories list year after year, endlessly.  So, don't despair.  Just keep your current garment selection in good repair, and you should be able to endure the latest fashion trend.  ;-)>>Respectfully,>>Gary>>>>>>I really should warn you guys when I go into "satire mode," shouldn't I?-Depon>P.S. Gary, you yet again prove your coolth! A philosophical view of fashion is really the only option for a reasonable person, isn't it? And it's only a matter of time before the (tights-rich) 80's make the same comeback that the 70's just did, eh? (The B-52s, the Go-Gos, tights goddesses all...)Someday, we'll tell our kids about the great tights famine of 2000. Well, probably not...

Depon, you got me--haven't figured out your style of humor yet!  ;-P

I agree, the 80's had a great range of form fitting attire.  But I'd prefer the early 90's, actually.  It was then that Lycra was perfected and bodystockings (catsuits) and tights were all the rage.  Do you remember the fashion catwalks back then?  A few featured women clad in catsuits, strutting about, looking VERY alluring.  (I have an image of a woman wearing a full length catsuit, hood included, with a highly contrasting pattern of maroon polkadots on white--very striking!).

It's funny... I've met some women who simply can't stand pantyhose or tights (saying they don't breathe enough, confining, runs are a pain, etc.), quite a few who are neutral about them (they do like what lycra pantyhose can do for their figure), and only met one that really enjoys waist to toe hosiery.  What's been your experience?
