Balletlover - Balletmania
written by J.S. at on 23.02. at 17:37:24 dance presentations which they give every year. You never know what you'll see! I was offered a chance to go the mine's dress rehearsal by my dance teacherbut was too busy. What a mistake! I wound up going to the last performance. Midway through the show, the curtains opened and all we saw was a cloth cylinder object in the middle of the stage. As it turns out, this thing falls to the ground revealing three girlsstanding close together in yellow unitards with red flame designs. They begin dancing to an instrumental version of Prodigy's Firestarter. The girls were really nice too because they had normal bodies, notthose ballet bodies. Anyway, they start running around the stage, twisting and writhing ( I guessimitating flames). They threw themselves to the ground and starting goinginto like really crazy spasms, then they stood up and made an elephant walkfacing AWAY from the audience (if you know what I mean). I noticed a guy with sports glasses sitting next to me and resisted the urge to knock him out and grab 'em. The girls were running around in circles, supporting each other as they didleg lifts and bend overs, two lifted the third, doing frog jumps over each other, swung their hips while doing writhing arm motions into the air. [ok so I'm no dance critic for the Smithsonian] In any case, they did pretty much everything you'd like girls in unitardsto do [short of an NC-17 rating] I asked my dance teacher who had choreographed this flame dance, and shetold me it was somebody that teaches cheerleading. Let's hear it for the cheerleaders!!! Unfortunately, all the girls in the performance had auditioned independentlyand are not in the dance classes, so I could not meet them. But I will tryto meet this cheerleader lady....I really like the way her mind works! Best J.S
