I told them that I had been taking ballet class down the street and my teacher wanted to know if I was interested in pointe. I told her I was but I wanted to check out the shoes first.>The woman was very sensitive to my needs. It was amazing. I tried on several pairs, each pair better than the previous one. The first thing I did was to slip off my regular shoes and athletic socks and rolled up my pant legs. Next I slipped on a thin nylon stocking. She asked me if I wanted to wear an ouch-pouch. I wasn't sure what that was and she explained that it was a gell filled pouch that surrounds the toes and comforts them. I said that sounded like good idea.>Next we started down the road to trying on pointe shoes. Wow! did they look fantastic! The first pair fit well and she asked me to stand flat. She felt around my feet and checked the fit. Next she took me over to the barre (they had a cool setup with a barre and mirror) and told me to pointe my left foot. She told me to do one foot at a time. Next she had me do the right foot and again checked the fit. Next was the really cool part, she told me to go up on pointe with BOTH FEET! OH MY GOD.. it was amazing!!! She remarked and said WOW as I went up on pointe for the first time! She said that I did a really good job, and would be good at it. I actually stood on pointe while she checked the fit again. She made sure the my ankles and my feet were properly pointed and that I was standing on my big toes. It hurt a bit, mainly in the arch.>Next I tried on another pair, with the same routine as before. After that came another pair in a gorgeous satin. That was the best fit yet! Finally I tried on the best pair in the world (also the most expensive!). They were supurb! Again I did all the same fittings as before with each of the previous pairs of pointe shoes. They were indeed the best fit and didn't require the ouch-pouch.>Then we narrowed it down to 3 pairs and tried them on all over again to compare how they fit. It was so cool!! Something I never had tried before.>Finally after an hour, it was time to go, after trying on a pair of black capezio tights. The woman, who was very intriguing, was telling me all about pointe work and that it is really good for your feet and ankles. It is amazing for strength work. I told her that I wanted to check with my teacher about the best ones to get and what she would recommend. What was cool about her was the she treated me just like anyone else trying on pointe shoes.>Finally just before I left, she asked me how I liked it. I told her it was really great and that I'd be back to buy them. Best of all, she asked me if I had FUN!!! I told her that I did, and thought it was a blast! >I will go back and get some pointe shoes. I really liked the look of the shoes and how it made my entire leg look. The only real pain came from my toe nail was too long. Something a pedicure will take care of!>Sleepless (over Pointe Shoes) in Seattle.>Rob That's sooooo cool!!! I wish that I had the guts to go into a dancewear store and try on some Pointe shoes!!! The Pointe shoes that I have (in luscious ballet pink!!) I got through the mail. They fit OK, but I would give anything to buy in person some of my favorite ballet pink tights, pink leotard, pink tutu, and of course, pink Pointe shoes!!! I'd love to have some ballet boy tie me up in pink Pointe shoe ribbons!!!! Answers to this message:
