>>>But there were some high points, many of which involved Dea, myself, and a Jacuzzi! Here's some that didn't, but make up for it by being of partickular interest to us types:>>>There's a chain of stores in NoCal called The Sockshop, which is basically what the name says, but they also carry a very eclectic selection (three times fast!) of tights, two of which I decided to blow the hard-earneds on. Here's my report: First up is Levante AirSkin 150's (the 150 stands for the denier) subtitled "Super Matte-Breathable-Opaque Tight," all of which are quite true. I got the XTalls, which are rated for 5'1"-6'0", 120-205 lbs., and they fit me like tights oughta! Second is a pretty unusual case: E.G. Smith Leg Therapy, which bill themselves as "The World's Greatest Tights." Depends on what you want from tights, I say, but I also say that these are, without a doubt, some of the best tights I've ever worn when it comes to opacity (mine are purple, by the by.) They're Cotton/Supplex, so they aren't quite as soft as microfibers, but get this: they're one-size-fits-all, and they fit me perfectly! Not bad for a guy six foot, one-eighty-five, eh? They make the "one-size" point on the package by showing photos of models (one of which is a guy) of all sizes (the girl under the heading "Full, Fun and fit" is a total assassin, in my humble opinion. Crush city! Dea's got better legs, though...) The color selection is also extraordinary-lots of hues and patterns. I wouldn't be surprised if these became some of you dancers' favorite rehearsal tights-they're opaque as socks, comfortable (underwear-style waistband, just realized that's probably a uniform violation!) and they breathe. As I said, the texture's a bit on the coarse side, but the "coverage" is near-unbeatable. They set me back a cool 22 bones, but I'm definitely getting more! I haven't done the "bright-light test" on 'em yet, but I think that they might even pass for runner's tights...>>>So much for products, here's the two coolest tights-related incidents I'd experienced during the trip: Numero Uno-Dea and I spent last night camping (as in "tent") in Big Sur. I woke up at about two in the morning, and I decided to take a short walk around the grounds-in a t-shirt, sneakers, and black tights. It was pretty much deserted, and I only walked about a quarter-mile before I turned back, but not before I'd seen a pair of campers coming towards me (I could see the flashlight, but I scarpered before the could hit me with the beam!) Exciting and scary! Numero zwei-The salesgirl who rang up my second pair of tights (I'd actually gone to two Sockshop outlets, one in Cannery Row, the other in Carmel, which is where this took place) quite obviously knew that I was buying tights for myself (this was where I got the Levantes) I don't know she knew (though I was alone at the time, and buying my size,) but I know that she did. I did the small talk thing as she did the necessary, but all the time she was giving me this (I believe) warm, knowing, and sort-of-conspiratorial smile every time I looked her way, which was often. Lucky I'm a faithful kind o' cat, or I'd still be there (with a chalk outline around me and my own Swiss Army Knife in my throat, if I know my Dea!)>>>Oh yeah, on our way out of town I found a Danskin outlet, but frankly we were  low on both money, and any desire to hang around Carmel any longer!-Depon
