Lousy job-low pay (unless you "score" a commercial) and with some exceptions ("Night Court," "Murphy Brown," and any film with a Japanese crew) you basically get treated like dirt. Not soil, dirt. Anyway, one of the shows I ended up working on a lot was "Murder, She Wrote," (usually once or twice a month.) MSW was pretty famous for being an incredibly dull show to work on, so when I got the call on that fateful day, I thought I was in for two days of relative tedium.>>>WRONG ANSWER. I show up at Universal, and the AD sends me to wardrobe. It seems that we've all been hired to play an opera company, and we are to be costumed. The wardrobe girl (I love them) asks me my name and hands me a burgundy velvet jerkin and a pair of burgundy tights. I couldn't believe my luck! >>>So me and the guys, all of whom are complaining/joking about what they have to wear, (Not me!) head over to the trailers and suit up. My "skirt" comes to above mid-thigh (actually about two inches below NC-17,) but my tights are tights in name only-they look good, but they're on the far side of stretchy, if you know what I mean. I go to the costume trailer for a replacement, but the wardrobe girl says she doesn't have a matching pair, so we snaffle the suckers with a big safety pin, and I'm all set to spend two days being paid to wear tights, hooray!>>>The shoot is more fun than most. There's a lot to do, and the crew worked fast (they only had two days in the soundstage, as it was being prepped for some movie.) They needed a "backstage" kind of set, so all the half-finished scenery was perfect for the shoot. Our job is basically cross, cross, cross (milling about behind the actors,) but we get some fun stuff to do. Since my tights are in constant need of attention, many of my crosses involve me stopping to pull them up. Of course, wanting to be seen on TV in tights had something to do with that as well...>>>During downtimes, I would sit with my legs up on a table. I was hoping that some of the women on the set might be tempted to "look up my skirt" (I mean, after all these years of the reverse situation, it was only fair!) I believe I caught a girl or two (and one guy) doing just that, and one female friend of mine mentioned that my outfit "worked." Made my week!>>>I never got to see the show, but one of my mom's friends (c'mon, it's "Murder, She Wrote,") said that she recognized me in one or two shots, despite the fact that they put this ridiculous fake goatee on me. She was comically impressed that I was on the show, but I wanted to know what she thought about my wardrobe...-Depon Answers to this message: |
