Re: Halloween!!!

written by Zebra  on 01.11. at 09:13:53
For Halloween, I finally mustered up the courage to wear my zebra costume in public. This is a full-body, hooded, footed, gloved white unitard with only the face open, zipper in back. This was all striped up with fabric paint, added a tail, a clever yarn mane, ears, and an eye mask. Wore only a dance belt underneath to keep everything in its place, and hiking boots over the feet so as not to wear them through.

It was dark out, and I only went around the block, as I wasn't sure if I could deal with seeing anyone face-to-face in this get-up. The reactions were pretty funny. The first person saw me approaching from quite some distance (zebras have a way of standing out) and went inside their house. The second also spotted me in advance. This is funny...they had been coming the other direction, saw me approaching, and paused awkwardly for a bit as if waiting for a bus, then quickly headed back from the direction they came from. Apparently they REALLY didn't want to pass me or say hello! Finally, heading home, there was a couple heading out from a house to their car. They apparently spotted me but refused to make eye contact or acknowledge me, so I made it a point as I passed by to wave and say hello and MAKE myself seen. Plus of course there were a few dozen cars that passed by along the way and must have seen me.

Wow...I had left the house all shy and frightened but now was feeling confident, even cocky! I only regret now having not gone for a longer walk, maybe even to a grocery store or something, maybe even in daylight, and also regret that I have to wait a whole year now to try it again!

Next Halloween, watch for the guy in the head-to-toe tight stripes!
