I always ask the same question (See my recent correspondence with Nick on the male dancewear board). I get various responses (See the archives).
I've been watching the trends in sports for men to wear tights and biketards and unitards. I have freinds who were really pissed when swimmers switched to unitards from skimpy Speedos! Hell, wrestlers wear leotards!
I've come down to this determination: There are situations where dancewear (or whatever) is worn for it's function. I have always worn dancewear in ballet classes for the ability to move freely. And there are situations where men wear dancewear (or whatever) for sexual stimulation, be it hetero- or homo-erotic.
I have come to appreciate these differences. When a speed-skater guy like that Apollo Ono fellow wins a race, I don't think the lycra-wear has sexual connotations for him. When I would see my ex in a lace unitard, I understood the sexual connotations.
I think we need to separate functional from sexual, and then acknowledge that heteros use dancewear (or whatever) just as gay men do!
The problem with guys who post here is that sometimes we have to decide, as Freud said, "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar!"
