Is he into the internet? To tell the truth, these parsimony sites are not the best for young guys discussing dancebelts. Try www.danceart.com, and log into the Guy's Club for teens, and have him ask the question "why do I have to wear a dancebelt?" Maybe his peers there can convince him. Alternatively, let him try the Men's Club on www.balletalert.com. The moderators are professional dancers who can explain the need for a dancebelt. How about his dance school? Is there a male there that can impress the need for dancebelt? Us older guys can say "Hey, wear a dancebelt!" but the younger guys will always question why.
