A dancebelt drawrs the penis and testicles out of the crotch so that the dansuer will not injure these essential parts during tight, scissor-like movements required in ballet and dance. It's a different feeling, and something a novice has got to get used to. You sound like a big guy. The typical "large" dancebelt is for a guy who has a 33 to 34, maybe 36 if you're lucky, inch waist. You didn't mention you waist size (typically dancebelts are worn pulled up to the true waist, and are not low-slung hip-huggers); that would determine what you need in a dancebelt. Also the look you want is an important factor. Most of the recent dancebelts have a thin cotton- or nylon-lycra front, that shows the anatomy pretty well. Capezio makes a cotton-quilted front (padded) that smooths things out. If you think you want to wear a dancebelt, with it's positives and negatives, e-mail me with the look you want and I'll recommend a dancebelt for you. PPS: one reason guys want to wear tights properly is to avoid the "no unibutt" look. That's wear the butt cheeks are well defined, and the tights fit well into the butt crack.
