Interestingly, the thong was originally a MAN'S garment. It was invented in the 1940's and called a "posers strap" and used for males who posed for paintings but did not want to be completely exposed. It wasn't until the 1980's that Fredrick's of Hollywood introduced the "thong" underwear to women that it became asociated with the female gender. BTW, tights have been a MAN"S garment for several hundred years! Women were "introduced" to tights in the late 1950's when materials and machinery to mass produce them were invented.
