It would be appropriate for us all to recall how this garment came to hold such a very special place in the dance world. I think it was Martha Graham in the 1940s who first made leotards standard dancewear in her company, and soon all dance companies were using them. Graham had her dancers wear leotards because they allow total freedom of movement, like being naked only not naked, and because they allow the teacher/dance director to check the turnout and extension of everything. Because they give the clean smooth lines needed for the art of dance. Because they look great and feel so sensuous when you slip them on. Because they make a statement: I Am A Dancer. Because they rock. Antworten zu diesem Beitrag: |
