You asked about dancebelts, which is guy-stuff (not that guys stuff their dancebelts!)

A dancebelt is not a jockstrap, but is is desiged for the boys to give special support, kind-of like a jockstrap. Think of the dancebelt as a thong made of of really strong elastic material.  This gives the boys the necessary support that keeps their more developed organs out of the way of strenuous dance movements.

I don't mean to be "gross" and hope your mother has told you about how girls and boys develop differently during puberty, but the truth is that boys in ballet need to keep the delicate developed organs out of the way of movements where the legs scissor or criss-cross quickly, so they don't giggle around when jumping, and so on.

The dancebelt, the strong-elastic thong (some have full seats), also may have special fabrics, like padding, in the pouch.  These are not to make the boys look bigger, but to make the dancebelt more comfortable to wear.

The boys always seem to complain about dancebelts, probably because they are not that comfortable until you get used to them.  That's why you'll always see messages like "Do I have to wear a dancebelt!"  I guess it's kind of like the girls asking about wearing bras.

I hope that answers your quiestion.  balletboy
