That is of utmost importance.
It is said Instructor's teach because of two things. Either they had wonderful experiences in their realm of expertise and enjoy teaching and want to help, or people teach because they can't practice in the real world (this is usually a struggle between reality and fantasy that they have a difficult time solving = you can tell when people have this problem very easily. Their head is typically at cloud level).
Just because an instructor corrects you does not mean you are a horrible dancer. They correct you because you are there to be corrected (that is number 1 reason). What it more than likely means is they see you have the ability to be better. It is difficult to self critisize as we typically work within what is comfortable to us. It takes someone else to push you farther.

PS, of course if you have been taking beginner level ballet for 5 years and are taking 3 classes a week. Then yes, you are challenged.[/i]
