One thing I have to say, a dear old friend of my was one of the greatest physicians in the US. He used to recommend that whatever food you take, a plate, a glass, a hot-dog...just eat two-thirds and throw out the remaining third. In addition to cutting down calories, this diet is designed to change the way you look at food, in effect, devaluing it. If you can get comfortable with throwing away a third, you'll learn how to eat just enough to stop when you're full, and not feel compelled to eat the rest. This diet even helps people who are addicted to junk food.
Of course, a healthy diet is important to begin with.
OK Dan, now what about you as a person?
You're 6'2" and 228! That's big. Ballet and yoga will help, but from this limited description you sound like so many of my yuppie friends who join a gym and get a personal trainer and get into weights. Once in shape they buy a Porsche and spend much less time at the gym.
My sincere belief is that ballet and yoga are much better for getting in touch with yourself as a person and understanding the discipline to keep your body in shape. They become more fulfilling than the gym.
I'm curious, why the interest in ballet in addition to the diet rather than the macho gym scene. Do you see more there for you? What do you anticipate?
Many of us who post here have different reasons for getting into ballet. I was the uncoordinated kid whose brother and neighborhood friends wouldn't let me play in their games. One day I went home crying and turned on the TV to see a ballet performance, and the men were doing these fantastic leaps and turns. I said I want that!
If you'd like to talk about these things on this board, I think it could help anyone else who reads it. However, if you want to talk on a one-on-one basis, you can pick anyone's email address (just click on the highlighted "name" at the top when you read our messages). There are many of us who talk one-on-one. If someone doesn't think they can help, they'll tell you.
I hope you keep in touch!
