Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but I don't think guys should dress as women in ballet classes. Sure, wear the unisex or ladies' stuff because it fits better, or wear clothing that is comfortable, like Tom's friend. However, give the appearance of a male danseur, not en travestie.
Male bodies and female bodies are different, and male bodies in ballet are used differently than female bodies. In most adult classes, the beginning is pretty unisex. BUT, as you progress, especially in center, the male does the steps differently from the female. A male moves with strength and forcefulness across the floor when most females need to move with an elegance and femininity.
That's my humble opinion!
