What do you mean by "perform"? If you mean to really, truly dance in a big company on a full-time basis, no. But there may be opportunities if you set your sights a little lower. Depending on where you live and the relative abundance of dance schools in your area, you might be able to attach yourself to a production of the Nutcracker and get a decent dancing role. Small regional and local productions of the Nut almost always have difficulty filling male roles.
I used to know someone who started ballet at the age of 47 in July, and in December he was dancing Chinese in a local Nutcracker. I also know someone who'd been taking ballet for years and who went to a Nutcracker audition accompanied by her boyfriend, who had never danced before and showed no interest in ballet. He was prevailed upon to lift her and a couple of the other women. Ultimately, he was shanghaied into the role as the Cavalier (his girlfriend was rejected, ironically) though he only had a few weeks in which to prepare. I saw him perform, and he actually did a fair job. By the end of the run, he was hooked on ballet and has danced in the Nutcracker ever since, as well as other productions of this little company. [/i]
