[i]This is what I did. MY ballet teacher said they make their portables out of galvanized steel pipes. I drew a picture of what I wanted and showed it to my husband. I also showed him what one looks like in a ballet video. We went to Home Base to the pipe section and he put one together for me in less than a half hour! I'm 5'10" so my barre is about 46" high. If you know a handy guy, he can make one for you. The larger the pipe the more expensive it'll be. The length of my barre is 72"x3/4". There even might be someone in the store who could help you. Make sure your pipes and couplings are all the same size. I love my barre, and now my mom and sister want one! It only cost $37! That's a lot better than what I've seen elsewhere. My friend who dances w/Alvin Ailey said she could use one in her apartment! You can also visit, if possible, a local ballet studio to get dimensions from their barres or look up www.danceequipment.com for ideas. Hope this helps you out some.
