[i]No one younger than 12 yrs. old should EVER be on pointe. The bones of the feet simply have not ossified enough. It doesn't matter who wonderful a dancer the person is - the bones are not ready. Injury will occur, not immediately, but it will occur. Bunions, hammer toes, arthritis. It's never right.
