Well I guess there are a lot of answers to your questions. I always wanted to try ballet from a young age but out of fear of being called a fag or the other ridicule I would have endured from kids in school kept me away from trying it.  I guess it did not help that I was an only son amongst six children, I could just imagine how my father would have reacted to something like that. I don't think he would have been too thrilled to see his only son wearing tights. He would have said something to me like do I want to put a ribbon in my hair and wear a dress.I suppose now that I am an adult and I can now do what I want, I would like to try it while nobody knows about it. Another nice incentive is the fact that I will probably be the only male in the class in a room full of women dressed in leotards and tights. I won't deny that I would enjoy that view. Anyway, if you can give me any advice on what to expect in the first class and what should I do for attire, your input would be greatly appeciated. Talk to you later.

>Hi Dan!>You started a great series of advice, but did we get you anywhere?>One thing I have to say, a dear old friend of my was one of the greatest physicians in the US.  He used to recommend that whatever food you take, a plate, a glass, a hot-dog...just eat two-thirds and throw out the remaining third.  In addition to cutting down calories, this diet is designed to change the way you look at food, in effect, devaluing it.  If you can get comfortable with throwing away a third, you'll learn how to eat just enough to stop when you're full, and not feel compelled to eat the rest.  This diet even helps people who are addicted to junk food.>Of course, a healthy diet is important to begin with.>OK Dan, now what about you as a person?>You're 6'2" and 228!  That's big.  Ballet and yoga will help, but from this limited description you sound like so many of my yuppie friends who join a gym and get a personal trainer and get into weights.  Once in shape they buy a Porsche and spend much less time at the gym.>My sincere belief is that ballet and yoga are much better for getting in touch with yourself as a person and understanding the discipline to keep your body in shape.  They become more fulfilling than the gym.>I'm curious, why the interest in ballet in addition to the diet rather than the macho gym scene.  Do you see more there for you?  What do you anticipate?  >Many of us who post here have different reasons for getting into ballet.  I was the uncoordinated kid whose brother and neighborhood friends wouldn't let me play in their games.  One day I went home crying and turned on the TV to see a ballet performance, and the men were doing these fantastic leaps and turns.  I said I want that!>If you'd like to talk about these things on this board, I think it could help anyone else who reads it.  However, if you want to talk on a one-on-one basis, you can pick anyone's email address (just click on the highlighted "name" at the top when you read our messages).  There are many of us who talk one-on-one.  If someone doesn't think they can help, they'll tell you.>I hope you keep in touch!>balletboy>>>Hi,>>   I am a a 38 year old male, 6foot2 and 228 pounds tryng to lose about fifteen pounds and a middle age gut that I have gotten due to a lack of physical activity.>>   I have started a diet but I was wondering if ballet would help me in trying to lose the weight and girth.>>   Please send replies thank you.
