I was wondering, do I have a chance? My experience level is: Age 5-ballet class for I year, 1 class/week> Age 6-8 ballet classes at a really bad community center, 1 class/week> Age 8-10 various dance classes at a really bad community center, 1 class/week> Age 11 ballet class for I year at advanced level, 1 class/week>Those really bad community center classes mean that the teacher didn't teacher well, like the teacher isn't a professional at it. Also I never really took dance (incl. ballet) classes during the summer. I'm not really flexible anymore, but I do have a good turnout, althought I'm most definatly not on pointe yet. I took a ballet camp last year, and my teacher said I was really talented. But if I consider a career in ballet, what kind of training should I get? Like how many hours a week should I take lessons? Should I consider private lessons? Any most importantly, do I have a chance? I'll be honest and say that time is not on your side. However, if you have the talent, determination and proper training you can still be a professional ballerina. You should be taking 5 to 6 classes per week, and practicing at home when not in class. There have been some famous ballerinas who made it after starting late. Melissa Heydon started ballet at age 15, and went onto great fame. So get going!! The clock is ticking!!!
