stretch question for beginner

hello-i just have taken a few beginner classes as an adult becuase i had been running, and it was bulking my mucles, and hard on my legs. in between the classes i have begun stretching daily and doing plies/releves,etc as part of that routine. should my legs be getting BIGGER? i was trying to avoid this in the frist place; though ballet was more of a leaning art/sport. i cannot fit into my olds pants/jeans-went up a whole size and am afraid to keep at this.....
