If you live in the sticks, well, that's another matter. When checking out studios, ask to observe a class. Talk to some students to get their opinions. You might want to try a small studio that offers more hands-on personal attention than a place that relegates beginners to the back of the room and the instructor won't even talk to you until survive a month of fumbling around.
