I have taught many very overweight people - both men and women. You are looking for something wonderful to learn and do - not a career. Just get yourself a leotard and tights - and go for it. Find a teacher who enjoys teaching adults - observe the class , talk to the teacher. Don't compare yourself to anyone else - and just go and dance and enjoy. Basheva >I'd like to start taking ballet lessons when I can find the time. I'm 20 years old, and I'm sure I could find the money if needed. The problem is this: I'm not a small woman. I'm about 20 lbs overweight (although since my job is active, I'm still a 10/12 jean size), but my feet are pretty darned big. Size 10-11 in an average woman's shoe. (Size 9 1/2 mens). I'm kinda tall (5'7") as well. Now, I'm not looking to make this into a career -- I'm looking to it as discipline (which I need) and a way to possibly help me lose weight (I eat well and I go to the gym, but still....) I promised myself some kind of dance lessons when I felt my legs were strong enough, and I'm wondering if ballet would be imposibly hopeless. Thanks for any input you can give me :) Answers to this message: |
