Re: the center

Don't be afraid to pass on a combination you can't do yet.  Sit back, watch, use the barre as a tool if you need to.  Just today, I had to put my Tuarus stubborness aside and head to the barre while everyone else was in the middle.  Not only did it work (I was able to finally get the step that was eluding me correct), but it may have saved me from injuring myself if I'd tried something I wasn't quite up to yet.  Also, ask your teacher to take the time after a class to walk you through the steps slowly.  Most teachers are happy to do this and it saves them from singling out one person at the expense of the entire class.  That said, you may not be the only one having problems.  Others in the class may benefit from your taking the time to question the combination.

It also sounds like you are pushing yourself awfully fast.  I took a barre in the advanced adult class at my school.  It was fun, but way too fast for me.  I couldn't even think about doing their center yet.  All things in time.  You may want to step back just a bit, get the basics right, then push forward.  There are so many things for beginners to think about at any one moment: Is my foot turned out correctly?  Is my back straight?  Straighten my legs.  I'm sickling my foot again!!!  So much goes through my mind, at times I too forget which is left and which is right.  Slow down.  Learn the basics.  Make them second nature, then move on.

In the past, people have written about "plateau's" on this forum.  It is true.  You will find you reach a level where things suddenly make sense, and you'll be fine.  Then you'll level out a bit and hit another hitch.  Then, one day, it'll all just make sense again.

Good luck and keep dancing.  Feel free to e-mail me if you need more suport.
