Co-Creators of Bring in da Noise/Bring in da Funk, Savion Glover and Reg E Gaines, team up for a second performance celebrating the inspiration of John Coltrane in their work. IF TRANE WUZ HERE is a one night only impromptu performance of celebrated, Tony Award winning choreographer and tapper Savion Glover and Tony and Grammy Award nominee poet and spoken word grandmaster Reg E Gaines, accompanied by saxophonist Matana Roberts.
This improvisational session will feature Glover's tapping, Gaines' poetry and Roberts' saxaphone both solo and collaboratively, as they muse on Coltrane's inspiration and influence within their own artistic process. Performed only once in July, Glover taps endlessly to sounds of Coltrane amidst a dynamic meditation of the man and his work. Savion Glover helped create the Tony Award winning Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk and starred in Spike Lee's Bamboozled. Reg E Gaines is a playwright and poet who wrote the book for the Broadway musical Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk. Matana Roberts is a dynamic saxophonist, composer and improviser.
