Based on my experience attending medieval reenactments and Renaissance faires, I would suggest that if whatever you will be wearing "up top" comes down to mid-thigh or lower, you could probably get away with a jockstrap rather than a dance belt, as your upper garments would prevent any unsightly tell-tale jockstrap lines under your tights from being seen by the audience. If your upper garments are shorter than mid-thigh, stick with a dance belt. You will get used to it, even a thong style, which won't show any lines under your tights, and you will feel more comfortable "in front" for having something between you and your tights.
