Why do ballet danseurs always wear a leotard under tights? Some stupid tradition.
Leotard, the man not the garment, wore the garment he created over his tights. There is nothing wrong with wearing a leotard over tights. But in ballet, the look is important. The leg needs to be long and the butt muscular. A leotard over tights can obscure these lines.
It's that simple. Guys who dance should understand the need for showing the body at its best. I especially like wearing a thong leotard over tights, with the butt cheeks separated, showing my muscualr butt in its best light. But I understand the need of the ballet choreographer to show the nature of his dance. My hot butt doesn't matter when the meaning of the dance needs to be expressed.
In classes, if I want to wear my leotard over my tights, I go for it. But my costume doesn't matter to me and I defer to the choreographer to give the look he/she wants.
