Actually, I don't like leotards at all either. They feel like a shirt, except too tight, cut all wrong, and I have this bad habit of obsessively playing with it and not concentrating. So I decided a long time ago not to wear them. As for unitards, it's started to get hot again, so I'm wearing as little as possible, but still staying modest.
Oh, about not wearing a dancebelt. I bought these tight cotton-spandex shorts made by Baltogs a while ago from NY Dancewear. I really never made much of them, until one day someone stole my belts from the laundry room. So, not having anything to wear under my tights, I used these OVER my tights. Lo and behold, not only were they snug (not tight) enough to hold the goodies, but I didn't feel like someone was giving me a wedgie while I danced. Now because they are tight, and because I do use them over tights, I also wear rolled up shorts like the women do, but they don't break the line too much.
As much as I like to show off my body at any other time, for some reason during class I just want to cover up a lot, maybe to make up for percieved inadequecies for dance that I hold. But I guess these are just percieved, as my teachers rather see my movement and set an example than hide in the corner.
