>Why worry?  The truth is that white tights are never too opaque.  All nylon white tights will always show some of the skin underneath.  Just be sure to always wear a beige dancebelt under white tights; a white dancebelt shows through too much.>If you feel insecure about wearing white tights because they may be too sheer, you can wear two pairs.  Some of my friends wear a beige or suntan pair underneath; but, to me, this still gives the impression of skin underneath.  >To tell the truth, I don't worry when I'm wearing white tights.  Everybody knows what's underneath.  As a male ballet danseur I'm proud of my body and the work I've put into it.  So what if some of it shows through?  I'd dance in a thong if I could, but that's a little radical for classes and most performances.  I wouldn't dance nude, 'cause I prefer "suggestion" rather than in-your face nakedness.>I wear white tights often (I prefer the M. Stevens brand for lycra tights) in classes.  Some of the gals titter and some laugh; but, after a few classes, they forget.  I often see girls peek at me in the classroom windows when I'm wearing white, but that doesn't bother me.  Traditionally, white tights are worn by more advanced students in graded classes, but when you get to the adult level, almost anything goes.  If I'm not wearing white tights, I wear light grey tights.  Most guys in classes prefer wearing dark colors, but I think those conceal the muscles of the leg. Some guys don't feel secure about their bodies and to be "modest" can be very natural, given our society.  But you're a male taking ballet, and generally society thinks that's "strange," despite the benefits to the danseur.  If you're going against-the-grain, why not go all the way?  >I really look in the mirror to see the muscles and how they're working, my amount of turn-out in the thighs, whether I'm clenching or releasing my butt muscles at the proper times, etc.  Very light dancewear helps show what I need to see.  I'm concerned with the dance, and try to learn the most for my art.>A funny truth is that when at home I love to practice in red tights or a red unitard, but I'm afraid of wearing red in classes.  Go figure!  I do wear red tights at Christmas time with a santa hat, and I wear red at Valentine's.  I dress different in classes for all holidays!  I have American-flag tights for 4th of July.  Halloween is a hoot! The teachers in adult classes love it!>At most schools in adult classes I've been in, guys are appreciated in class.  A woman from one of my adult classes brought her young boy (maybe 5) a couple of times to class, and now she's entered him into the little kids class, and he seems to love it.  Her husband has volunteered to be onstage with us in an upcoming character ballet role, at the czar's court.  The women in classes really give us guys extra credit for being in class, and, in the end, don't seem to mind what we wear.>In short, don't worry about white tights, and feel free to wear them to class.>Be proud to be a male ballet danseur!  balletboy--Yow, red unitard (as my eyes perked).  Quick question--what brand, style, and material did you get yours in?
