I have read numerous posts regarding the "Up or Down" issue, all I"m goign to say here... as a former dancer... and now a professional costume designer.... A couple people o this board need a life for one. And to thos obvios "Thrill seekers" who are merely trying to get a rise out of others (In more ways than one)... If the anatomy is not meant to go up.. for whatever nerve damage???? then please explain why the natural position when sleeping etc. is up? The purpose is to not rack oneself while dancing, pushing things down does not allow for much room in a properly fitted dance belt and if you are buying one larger to compensate then it is not supporting properly. A dance belt is not made to encompass or shape around someone putting their anatomy down into the support pouch. If that is done it forces things further down in between risking injury.. and if you're notgetting injured I shall assume you are not doing any dificult moves or that you are not of any professional status. I have now costumed numerous male dancers and I have to say that all but two novices wore their anatomy up, for one, it is more comfortable, and two... gay or straight, males are vain creatures, from the dawn of time man has shown off his body and putting things up showcases what a guy has, putting it down is almost trying to hide out of embarassment, no further comment necessary there. And I might also add that if a guy gets an erection while dancing his mind is probably not in the right place, if it was.. he probably wouldn't get one or realize if he did. It would actually hurt to get an erecton in a properly fitted dance belt, and most guys will attest, nothing turns of an erection like pain.. or focusing on your choreography. The guy's I've costumed and had to breech the subject with all were pretty much in agreement that after the first couple times wearing a dance belt the sensitivity is no longer there and you get used to the comfort of it. The most important thing to stress is proper sizing, a dance belt will be uncomfortable if it's too small... it does not have to be too tight to support you, a dance belt is made to hold things out of the way and a proper fit should do just that, the support pouch will keep things in place without being painfully tight. And I will add that the couple novices... they started wearing theirs "up" and said it felt more comfortable and then proceeded to joke that they looked bigger and didn't mind it. And to address the "I've seen pictures" remarks.. not seeing things definately up does not mean they aren't up... depending on the type and brand of dance belt it will make a difference... and I know of a number of ballet companies that I"ve worked with in which they pad the dance belts as to not see shapes... this is a modesty thing to them and then you don't have size obsessed individuals like certain ones on here looking to see what they can see and make out  during a performance and in pictures as some have stated here. If someone is looking at closeups of crotches to see if someone is "up or down" they need some serious help and are into this more for a thrill. Get a life!

I hope this helps for some of you and shuts a few others up.. there is no reason to confuse beginners with perverse nonsense.
