Sorry to disappoint you, Balletboy, but I don't know who inventedthe dance belt, or when.  It has always looked to me like someinstrument of torture left over from the Spanish inquisition, orlike some indecent garment worn by...well, never mind.  :-)  Myguess is that it dates from the time ballet tights were invented(ballet tights they were invented by Maillot, at around the time ofthe French revolution), but don't bet the farm on that guess.
