In classes, the sexier look is less important.  During an hour-and-a-half class, the danseur wants to be comfortable.

For me and many of my friends, cotton/lycra is more comfortable than nylon/lycra.  Don't get me wrong, I wear shiny nylon/lycra sometimes, but prefer the cotton/lycra for classes.  It tends to be "warmer."

As far as the "sexy" look, most dancers want to look "sexy" when they perform, but during classes comfort is more important.  Sexy is not so important when the dancer is working to train.
