I think wearing traditional ballet attire shows that you are serious about making an effort to learn. Some people find tights, etc. comfortable, some find them extremely constricting, although almost everyone gets used to the sensation of wearing them over time. Whether you're straight or gay, if you want to wear tights to class, do it! You're in a ballet class, for god's sake...other than your instructor, what do you care if anyone thinks differently of you? You're all there to learn dance technique, not ogle each other. It's not like adults don't know or should be surprised by what a man's body looks like......... I can't stand it when people wear shorts or sweats in ballet class. It detracts from the whole experience.. ballet is supposed to be very formal and disciplined, and proper attire is part of that. Talk to the teacher about suggesting that everyone dress properly.
