I would like advise on how to help him deal with peer pressure about his dancing as he gets older. He already gets a number of comments. I would be crushed if he quit because of negative comments from others. We live in a small, rather backward southern town. He has no male dancers as role models around here. One excellent thing in his favor-- his father is very supportive of his dancing. I would appreciate any advise or support anyone can offer-- especially from men.I am a 14 year female dancer, but eye can give you some advice. One of my best friends, who a male and is the same age as me, dances. He has always had to deal with comments from his friends, but he has found ways to deal with it. One way, is to make sure your son is involved in some "more masculine" activities. Even if he dances, if he knows about sports, etc, he will fit in better with the other boys. Also, with practice and time, your son should learn to ignore people who are immature about him being a male dancer. I know it can be hard to deal with, and that is to be expected, but the joy of dancing usually pays off. [/i]
