I mean, the stories behind the ballets I have seen are all either bland or cliche. When I watch a ballet performance or video, I guess the only time I get interested is when a male solo pops up. But the problem with that is that I get this condescending feeling. Like "I could never do that, so why try?" kind of thought. Grrr!!! I just get annoyed sometimes when I am dancing and I know that this hand MUST go there and my hips must be still and yada yada yada. WHY? Because some dead people decided, "Hey! This looks pretty!" The expression is much more superficial, I feel, in ballet than in modern. I dunno!!!!!!!! Aaaaggghhhh!!! And about the whole thing about doing stuff over and over again - WE REALLY DO. Same barre work EVERY week. She COULD shift it up a bit; still working on the same points. >>Without perfecting your ballet technique, I don't think you'll have much chance with any other style dance company, except maybe Eastern European folk dancing! I know you must have seen some companies' performances. Haven't you ever noticed that they try to get ALL of the ballerinas to look the SAME? Hello...? It is ANNOYING. I don't want to see 10 of the same people on stage. If I wanted that I would get mirrors to duplicate it all. Gee... >>Also remember that dancing, professional or amateur, requires DISCIPLINE. You must be able to discipline yourself to continue dancing. Ballet is the best type of discipline, so buckle-down and learn and repeat and repeat and repeat the exercises until you can move with grace, effortlessly. >>Is there something else going on here?
