BalletMaster, I am not the originator of this thread, but I did also reply. I am 47, and currently sidelined with a stress fracture of the right ankle, due to a flawed landing at the end of a grand jete. I intend to resume classes after I heal, but one of the greatest obstacles I've encountered in class (other than middle-aged joints) is an inability to remember exactly what I am supposed to be doing somewhere around the middle of the increasingly complex combinations I'm supposed to be learning. I've "progressed" into classes which are sufficiently
advanced that the instructor assumes that everyone will remember what she says the first time, no need to repeat.
Watching the people around me no longer works, if it ever did, because in reacting to what someone else is doing, I'm off-count, a half-measure to a measure behind in the music. Anyway, if the woman I'm observing is also wrong, then we're both screwing up. It's unnerving; also, hard to recover without stopping altogether, then restarting.
So, any memory aids for class will be most welcome!
Thanks.
My email address is: billthe3rd@earthlink.net.
