Australia is a big country. Do you live near a city? There must be an option for a ballet class, even if it is a Little Miss Suzzies! You have to start somewhere!
I also have heard that Australia is a pretty big country where whatever you want goes! That people there are more understanding and less into stereotypes than us crazy guys in the States with our Christian Right conservatives.
Do you really think the folks where you live would say "Paul's a freak!" if they saw you taking ballet? Even if they did, would you care?
What are you really afraid of? Don't be bashful! If people say you're gay because you take ballet (The most common implication!), does it really matter?
Life is short....you have to take the experiences you want.
I still say.....Paul..go for it! Wherever! But learning from videos is not the way to go....except maybe only for the basics....you still need to get into a real class to enjoy the "real" experience of ballet....the hard work....the sweat....the accomplishment when you see a danseur in the mirror who is you!
I wish I could be your ballet-buddy and take you to your first class, but I'm afraid that won't work. You need to live your own dreams, like many of your internet ballet-buddies have!
