The best place to shop, if you can, is a local place where you can
walk in, look at what they have, & try it on. But there aren't
many such places, & what they have for men is usually woefully
inadequate. Next best is a catalog, simply because the pictures
give more detail than you can get from a Web page. They're also
a poor source for male dancewear, but then, there aren't any good
sources, anywhere, & the catalogs are generally the best of a bad
lot. There are just so many more female students than males;
that's where the money is & that's the market to whom they cater.
A leotard is a garment that extends from the between the legs to
the shoulders. It's supposedly for women, but men do wear them (&
it was invented by a man for his own use.) A unitard is a little
like a body suit--tights and leotard all in one garment. Very
practical, because unlike tights is isn't apt to sag at the crotch.
White T-shirts are traditional wear for male dancers in class.
Belts? I assume you mean dance belts. They are the male dancer's
equivalent of an athletic supporter and they are VERY important.
One wears them at any age; they protect the male organs. The belts
with a thong back look better, but full-backed dance belts are made
(by Bal-Togs, I believe).
Hope this helps.
Tom Parsons
