[i]When you rise slowly to a quarter or demi-pinte (assuming you are a male dancer), you rollback from the ball down through the heel, using the whole foot. This developes the instep as it raises and lowes the heel. You don't use the toes to raise , lower or jump, you should use your metatarsals to develop the strength needed for your movements on your feet rather than your toes.
