I take 6 classes a week and each pair of canvas last 2 to 2 1/2 weeks at most, how long does it takes for you guys to wear out a pair? I also take 3 pointe-work classes a week and they become duds a lot faster than soft shoes, although I can still wear tham as flats at home. Personally, I also prefer leather than canvas because they shape my feet better but they take longer to break in ( to soften out and hug the feet more snugly due to sweating ) than canvas. I usually start off with a pair of canvas and change to leather midway to let the sweat to work into the leather and have the canvas stay drier. ( we often wet the floor to prevent the dancers from slipping )
Third point, do you guys prefer one elastic across the slipper or a pair sewed in an X pattern? I like a third method and it is to sew a single elastic on one side, cross it and bring it around behind my ankle and back to the other side in front to sew on. I learned this method when I was performing in Nutcracker as one of the children and as a soldier. Both the boys and girls have to sew it exactly like this and I'd kinda stayed with the idea ever since. Is there a forth method of sewing elastics ( other than not using it at all )?
Lastly, our school insists the boys to wear their shoes a different color to their tights i.e. white tights/black slippers, black tights/white slippers or black tights/white ankle socks/black slippers etc. This is to give a better 'finish' to the overall bodyline of the boys. I do not disagree but tend to think I actually look better when I have time to look at the mirror when I stop for breath and readying for the next combination of steps. What do you guys think?
I admit this is long winded but I think the slippers are the most important equipment for a ballet dancer, and second to that, the dancebelt, but that is another issue which I hope to discuss later.
I would like as much imput from you guys ( and girls ) as possible, Thanks. [/i]
