Re: What's wrong with liking tights?

As it always will. Tights are probably one of two great barriers to men taking up ballet. (Except they're not. I maintain that you don't actually have to wear them if you don't want to. As a relatively recent 'convert' to ballet, I strongly encourage other guys to consider taking it up - it's a lot of fun; but I realise that some guys, including myself, are a bit shy of the 'uniform'. So I take this opportunity to point out that tights aren't actually compulsory.) -ducking- I have to ask this question again........I love to wear tights, I am straight, I always wanted to give ballet a try BECAUSE OF MY LOVE OF TIGHTS, so once again I ask all of you....... if it took my love of tights to give ballet a try, is that a bad thing?? I have grown to love taking ballet lessons as much as I do wearing my tights. I cause NO distraction when I'm in class. I have also grown to respect the VERY hard training that serious dancers must endure every day of their lives. I may be a serious ballet student, but after almost one year of classes, I know I'll never be a great dancer. This matters not to me, for I enjoy my ballet classes. Ballet has helped me get into great shape, and meet some wonderful girls who love having me in their ballet class. This is exactly why I also wish to encourage guys like yourself to take up ballet - there was a recent post signed "Thinker" on this topic. You've discovered dance for what it is! It doesn't matter how you found your way in.

>There is room in ballet for those of us that love wearing tights, just as much as there is room in ballet for those that HATE wearing tights.Well said, and thank you! (Would the "pro-tights" lobby please take note. You don't have to wear them to be a real dancer.)

TLD, don't get so hung up on this issue - apart from our friend Ap(p)ollon, I don't recall that anyone on this board has raised any objections to your opinions. Just because I don't like wearing tights in class doesn't mean I disapprove of other guys wearing them - wear what you like! (Except a tutu - there I draw the line! *grin*)

The only reason I voice the opinion that a guy should be allowed to wear tracksters or shorts instead of tights, is to encourage those would-be dancers who are put off by tights. They're not compulsory (in all classes), only advisable - even I respect that.

Dance and have fun!

A.
