I'm not a figure skater, but I've had several male friends who have been figure skaters.  We became friends when they took ballet classes to help them with their skating.  They all wore dancebelts when they skated.

So...I got the impression that figure sakters always did wear dancebelts.  I would bet that the same "needs" we balleters have for support would be just as important to figure skaters.
