Annual Dance Gathering for Men & Boys - Australia

1€16 January 2 0 0 0   ON THE SUB-TROPICAL EAST COAST OF AUSTRALIAEach January hundreds of dancers and new enthusiasts converge on the village of Bellingen on NSW¹s magical mid-north holiday coast.   For sixteen days the town and surrounds bristle with energy as a broad program of performances, events, site-works, forums, ceremonies, revelry and many daily workshops focussed on the action arts take place.  Stamping Ground is Australia¹s longest-running dance festival and offers something for everybody as it celebrates male dance and ideas and issues about it.  It has become an important and unique event in the national arts calendar attracting international, interstate and local participants.  The main emphasis is on showcasing male dance and introducing the action arts to new enthusiasts.  The boys program is especially popular, so too the wide range of workshops and performance opportunities for dance women, dance and drama students, movement arts teachers, fathers & sons, mature people and parents of participants.   A core tuition program at intro and advanced level of contemporary dance, tap, jazz funk,  ballet,  boys action moves,  jumping juniors (under 7¹s) is offered daily around which many other workshops are offered over the duration of the event - such as aerial wirework, physical theatre, circus acro, fireshow,  aboriginal dreaming exchange, calypso, capoeira, Irish riverdance, Scottish country dance, pilates, experiential workshops, drumming, body percussion, didgeridoo and more. Stamping Ground¹s reputation is founded on its inclusiveness, the high quality of tuition offered by Australia¹s leading dancemen, choreographers  and specialists and the vast amount of performance work created during the event.  It offers a memorable and productive holiday experience at modest cost for tuition, events and accommodation.  People can participate for just one workshop or for the event duration. B I T Z   Y O U   N E E D   T O   K N O W BELLINGEN is located on the mid north holiday coast, midway between Brisbane & Sydney - approx. 7 hrs. driving time from Sydney - 6 hrs from Brisbane.  It¹s a 30 minute drive south from the Coffs Harbour Airport.  Closest railway station is at Urunga, ditto the Syd/Brisb bus stop.  Bellingen is 12 km west of the Pacific Highway, turn off at Urunga.  If arriving by public transport, advise your arrival times in advance and you will be met and transported to Bellingen.    nb.  LOCAL TAXI  018 653 535CAR POOL  If you can assist with transporting a body or two from Melbourne, Sydney, Cairns, Adelaide, Perth or Brisbane please advise at your earliest.  Ditto if you could use a lift.REGISTRATION  Friday 31 December, between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM at the Soldiers Memorial Hall, located in main street opp.  Post Office & Council Chambers - marked by first pedestrian crossing.  Memorial Hall is the contact & administrative site (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM daily) throughout the event.  If you arrive after hours, check window at Memorial Hall for info about that evening's events.  For accommodation go to the men's bunkhouse/Scout Hall in Bowra Street, next to bowling club at end of Oak Street - women¹s bunkhouse at Showgrounds - check maps in Memorial Hall windows.  If pitching a tent, go  to Showgrounds on north side of Bellingen - Take Wharf Street opp. Memorial Hall, cross river, turn into Black Street 100 metres on right after bridge - Showground gates first on left in Black Street.REGISTRATION NIGHT - 31 December - New Year's Eve  Stampers can rock in the new millennium with band, Dark Seed and other entertainment.  Supper provided.  Charge $12 - kids $5ACCOMMODATION  Unpowered Sites at  Showgrounds $6 nightly - max. 4 people per site = $1.50 each).  Powered sites $10.
