the male dancer
written by 2 Left Feet on 17.03. at 17:30:34 - as answer to: Final Thoughts by Kyle Since the subject of gays in dance was brought up, I have to ask: A friend of mine has complained about a bias against gays in dance and ballet. I personally have not seen this, but then again, I haven't been dancing long either. I'm curious if anyone else feels this way. I don't want to start a nasty discourse here on gays versus straights. I'm simply curious if anyone else feels this way and why. Myself, I've felt completely accepted from the minute I walked into the studio. I've always been under the impression we were there in that room for one common purpose. I've never felt being gay was an issue in any way. It seems to me one of the few places I've ever been where biases and prejudices are put aside. Perhaps I'm living in a dream world, or perhaps I'm choosing to see things through rose colored contacts. Either way, I've not experienced any kind of negative feelings in class. And, more power to this board and this forum. If it weren't for finding this board and getting support from other male dancers, I'd still be secretly harboring my desire to dance. It serves a much needed purpose. Answers to this message:
