A dancebelt can achieve the desired position, holding the penis, pointed upwards toward the belly-button, and the testicles, up away from the crotch. Many jockstraps have pouches that allow for lots of space and can't keep he genitalia up, out of the crotch. Telling boy dancers that they should wear wear a supporter like a jockstrap is easier than saying you have to wear a dancebelt, and the idea of wearing a jockstrap sounds more macho. But it's wrong.
