I left school after 1 years and went to New York - where I did alot of off-B'way and off-off-B'way dancing and was finally picked up by Larry Richardson Co. and tore the cartiledge in my right knee after two weeks - I am at present 55 and awaiting a knee replacement. Although I did create "The Electric Slide" and "The Texas 'Silver' Star" square dance, The Robot, Lockin' & Poppin', and was the first breakdancer - I never made a name for myself - people at the clubs in NYC only knew me as "The Dancer" - I am living on Percocet (10mg twice daily)- and cannot stand for longer than 15 min. at a time - Martha Meyers told me when I was at Conn. College that I would feel the pain and believe me, I do, but I would not change one day of my life and my question to the doctors is "will I be able to dance again after this surgery".If you are looking for a career in Dance - I would say "FORGET IT" but if you just want to dance - I say GO FOR IT!!! Dance 'til you drop is my motto. What is a good age to start? - BALLET, Modern - 13 Jazz, Tap - 5 When is it to late - NEVER!!! Answers to this message: |
