the male dancer

I believe that in ballet, the legs are what is emphasized more than anything else, including for males. If males were appreciated for their torso, then we'd see more weight-lifters. While women's legs are made to look pretty (purty), men's legs are emphasized for their power (thus why guys do the big jumps). We may not agree on what is to be emphasized, since this is art. but this has always been what I've been taught. -Komo P.S., My understanding is that the leotard is worn under the tights for men to act as support for the goodies, something that women don't have to worry about.
